The piece deals with recent experiences and emotions I could gain through live sound performances I have been given since 2008. For many months I have been looking for a strategy, which allows me to perform a live instrument without touching a computer. Spectral Shapes resides somewhere between live sound performance and pure acousmatic music. The piece has been fundamentally shaped by a live performance on one hand, on the other it was illuminated by many sounds, which probably can not be done in real time. All this has been framed under one major idea: a spectral envelope being formed by a human gesture, an act of interpretation, performance. The spectral envelope (here done with technology of sound analysis, resynthesis and granular processing) is shaped into sound clouds, which move in time and space. Computer remains in a position of an instrument, which has to be resonated by an act of musician, an act of will, if you want.
